Most homes in Augusta are single family, and the average cost is below the average in New England. In fact, its housing prices are below the national average.  Augusta attracts families with children as well as singles and retirees.   Homes on the outskirts of the city tend to be larger ranches with land and more expensive, although there are smaller rural homes as well.  Augusta is not an affluent city, but it is a comfortable and safe place to live.
