Bangor, Maine

Bangor (population 45,000) sits in the center of Maine along the Penobscot River in the area known as the Maine Highlands.   Once home to 300 sawmills, Bangor has a long logging history but today is home to museums, stately homes and the nation's second oldest garden cemetery.  Writer Stephen King calls Bangor home and resides in the lovely Broadway region, a section of town with wonderful Federal-style mansions erected during the lumber boom of years gone by.  Bangor is an ideal central location for access to the coastal seaports, the North Woods or even nearby rivers and lakes and has often been cited for being one of the best small cities in the country.
