Bar Harbor, Maine

Bar Harbor (population 4500) is a wonderful, charming seaside town that sits at the base of Acadia National Park, about half way up the coast from the New Hampshire border.  This quaint village is probably Maine's busiest tourist and vacation destination, and in the summer crowds swell the population.  The primary way into town is a one lane road that becomes clogged, and restaurants and hotels fill up quickly.  The best time to visit is in the fall.  Crowds subside somewhat, and the colors are beyond spectacular.  Go early, though, or the colors will have faded.  Bar Harbor is full of cute shops, quaint bed and breakfasts (and some stately waterside hotels) and excellent restaurants (don't miss the lobster).  You can also enjoy a windjammer tour, a moonlight sail or other fun activities.  Great town!  Click here for real estate information.
