| Maine Business Maine's
business economy is primarily based on
agriculture (seafood, blueberries, poultry) and
industries such as paper and lumber, textiles
and tourism. One of the great things about
Maine is that many businesses, particularly
those in small towns, are run from homes.
There are few commercial buildings in some
locations, adding to the state's charm.
In the past, much of Maine's
population worked in mills and factories,
creating a solid blue collar working class, but
the economy is moving toward more of a service
economy, including retail and health care
jobs. Many of the tourist spots (Bar
Harbor, Camden, Freeport, etc.) hire seasonal
help during the summer.
