Portland, Maine
This southern Maine seaport
(population 65,000) is often cited as one of the
most livable cities in the U.S. The town
has a rich maritime history, and this way of
life mixes with tourist accommodations to create
a charming and vibrant city. The Old Port
section of town is home to lively pubs,
restaurants and shopping. A low
cost-of-living, attractive housing prices and a
healthy environment contribute to Portland's
charm. Just up the coast are some of
Maine's most picturesque seaport/tourist (not to
mention shopping) stops, and to the west are
rolling hills, lakes, woods and breathtaking
fall foliage. Summers can be hot and
humid, and Maine winters, even in Portland, very
cold, but this is a wonderful destination for
anyone who enjoys New England ambiance and wants
to live in a quality medium-sized city. Click
